Elective, Security Specialization/Concentration, Security Gateway course for MPA students

Security is a universal entitlement. However security governance and policy making has not reduced individual or community perceptions and experiences of insecurity despite the UN’s promotion of a Human Security agenda. Multiple forms of violence, conflict and exclusion routinely impacts the lives of the poor, young men, women, children, racial and religious minority groups and the LGBTQ community. This course explores strategies and toolkits for enhancing security, including for understanding the drivers of insecurity, engaging affected groups, and enhancing their role in the policy process in order to promote security and justice reforms, and improve security interventions.
