A few questions to ponder
1) What role does Polyani assign to tradition in scientific inquiry? What implications does his argument have for places that do not get to lay a claim to such traditions?
2) Polyani says that scientists work not in isolation yet argue for the autonomy of the scientific community (the Soviet example is cited for this argument). Is this not a contradictory position, or am I reading it woefully wrong?
3) Kuhn argues that progress in the scientific community is much easier to see because there are fewer competing schools (163). How far can we stretch the argument for the evolutionary progress of science for the most part--- and the occasional paradigmatic shift?
