This course supports young Ukrainian scholars who want their ideas and research to circulate beyond the academic domain, reaching audiences across cultural and national borders. Offering a practical, hands-on format, we will analyse the main differences between academic and public writing, offer tips on how best to translate scholarly ideas into clear, engaging public writing for diverse, non-specialist audiences, and explore various genres and formats. We will tackle the challenges of writing in English for aspiring non-native authors. The course will also cover how to pitch work to editors, and will reflect on the overall media environment.
Please note that this course follows a slightly different format from IUFU courses: we will work in a smaller group, and around 2/3 of the sessions will be led by Natalie and Diána. In addition to working on their own texts, we expect students to offer constructive and tactful peer-feedback to their colleagues; we will offer individual meeting slots too, to help everyone get personal support for their work.
