In this course you will learn to how systemically collect, manage, and analyze data using qualitative methods in your research. It will cover the most frequently used qualitative methods in the positivist political science tradition - ranging from participant observation and interviews to focus groups and archival work. The course provides extensive knowledge about both theoretical foundations and practical application of these methods in real life. It also gives opportunities for students to learn some hand-on skills such as data coding and mapping. The last part of the course elaborates on how different methods of data collection could be combined in one research design and gives some insights into advanced qualitative methods such as Qualitative Comparative Analysis (QCA).
