If external users only need to check out course materials but do not need to interact with the course (upload files, post in forums, submit assignments), you can enable Guest access.

If external users need to interact with the course, you need to create them manually first and add them to the course.

Guest access

Be careful with this setting. If you allow guests outside the CEU community to access your course without a guest key, the course becomes public and anyone on the internet may be able to access the published course materials.

NewGuest access now always has an end date. Without a guest key, the default access period is 1 month and the maximum is 3 months. With a guest key, the default access period is 12 months and the maximum is 24 months. You can renew the end date later from Access Control.

NewGuest access has two levels now:

Standard guest access (default) lets guests check out resources such as files, pages and text, and activities without student data (like an assignment or lesson) but does not let them see activities where student names or submitted work may appear.

Enhanced guest access can allow guests to see content in activities such as forum posts, wiki contributions, student folder files, board posts and other student-visible submitted work. They can also see the participants list. Use this only if you are certain the student data may be shared with the external visitors. Enhanced guest access requires a guest key.

Select Access Control in the administration menu at the top right.

Change the Open for external Guests setting to Yes. A guest key is set automatically and can be changed. You need to provide this key and the course link to your guests. Set or check the guest access end date. You will receive a notification 24 hours before guest access expires and can renew it if needed. If you want to make the course public, you can delete the guest key, but guest access without a key has a shorter maximum access period.
