What is/are the digital humanities and how does it function, particularly in the context of historical studies? During our interactive class meetings, we will examine this versatile “field” and the general lifecycle of DH projects: we will critically analyze and reflect on the theory and logic, as well as the advantages and limitations of DH methods based upon the relevant existing scholarship. The goal here will be to provide a solid context and knowledge base, while also exploring the kind of intellectual approach that this novel research methodology and “system of skills” represents. By the end of the course, participants will have a solid grasp of the state of the field of DH and will have a good understanding of the procedures, realities, and challenges of the production of digitally-enhanced projects, making them well-prepared to proceed to further training.
This course is complemented by a Digital Humanities Lab course (held in parallel) which will provide opportunities to explore and experiment with relevant digital tools and methods in practice.
