Data Science is at the core of modern science, business, and governance. At the same time, data scientists take on the role as developers, researchers, decision-makers. This course explores how to develop and carry out independently data science projects in a small team on socially relevant problems. Students find and connect data. Look at interdisciplinary research problems and formulate a robust and replicable analysis plan. Lastly, they communicate their findings on different levels from tech reports to scientific papers and policy briefs.

The journey of the data science project is accompanied with input lectures on all the aspects of data science and project management. The input lectures link the project to previous courses and embed data science in a larger societal context.

Interdisciplinarity is a key property of data science and learning by doing is the best way to gain experience.
