This is an introductory course that is designed to familiarize students with some of the key concepts, theories, and debates in the broad interdisciplinary field of gender studies. The first part of the course will engage key concepts and debates in gender studies and feminist theory. The second part of the course will trace the historical development of different theories on women, gender, and social transformation from the 18th century through to the early 1990s. The third part of the course will provide an opportunity to reflect upon the past and future(s) of gender studies and feminist theory. By the end of the course, students will have read and be able to use key concepts and theories in gender studies in a nuanced way, informed by their contexts and critique.
