This course complements the Introduction to Digital Humanities course with an expressly practical component. Based upon the theoretical context provided by the introductory module, the goal here is to provide a critical, structured, and collaborative framework for students to experiment with various digital methods and tools which constitute an equally indispensable segment of Digital Humanities training. While this will be an elective course it is highly recommended that students take this course together with the Introduction to Digital Humanities unit.
By the end of the course, participants will have a good understanding of the functionalities, capabilities, and potential limitations of various digital tools and how they can be integrated into digitally-enhanced projects. Foundational knowledge provided by the Introduction to Digital Humanities course will here be complemented by experimental practical training through multiple concrete techniques and tools as case studies belonging to the different phases of the lifecycle of DH projects to analyze their applicability to diverse research areas, focusing on transparency and doability.
