The purpose of this course is to introduce students into some fundamental problems related to the knowledge, explanation, and metaphysics of intentional human action. The topics of the course divide in three major groups. First, we shall address the metaphysics of action, i.e. the ontological difference between actions and other events. Second, we shall discuss the problem of intentions and the nature of agents’ knowledge of their own actions. And finally, we shall investigate the difference between rational and irrational behavior as well as the concept of weakness and strength of the will.
